What Happens When My Document Expires?
On this page
Overview
Some digital credentials issued through FilPass include an expiration date. Once that date is reached, the document automatically changes its status to Expired.
Although the document remains visible in your account, it is no longer considered valid for verification or official use.
What Happens When My Document Expires?
When your document expires:
- The document status automatically changes to Expired.
- The document moves to the Expired section of your Documents.
- Anyone verifying the credential will see that it has already expired.
- The document can no longer be used as a valid credential for official verification.
Can I Still View My Expired Document?
Yes.
Even after expiration, you can still:
- View the document.
- Download the document (if download is permitted).
- Review its details.
- View its issuance history.
However, the credential is no longer considered valid because it has already reached its expiration date.
Can I Share an Expired Document?
You may still be able to generate or access sharing options depending on your organization's configuration, but anyone opening the credential will see that it has already expired.
Recipients should always share a currently valid credential whenever possible.
What Should I Do If My Document Has Expired?
If your credential is still required, contact the organization that issued the document.
Depending on the organization's policy, they may:
- Issue a new credential.
- Renew the document.
- Request you to submit a new application.
- Ask you to complete another approval or payment process.
Result
After a document expires:

Important Notes
- ❗ Document expiration is determined by the Issuing Authority during issuance.
- ❗ Expired documents cannot become valid again automatically.
- ❗ Only the issuing organization can issue a replacement or renewed credential.
